Sulamita Garcia, de Florianópolis para o mundo com escala constante em São Paulo.
Formada em Ciências da Computação pela UFSC, atualmente sou Gerente de Comunidade e Estratégia Open Source para America Latina da Intel. A metade Gerente de Comunidade do meu trabalho consiste em ser a interface entre a comunidade open source da região com a Intel, representando os projetos desenvolvidos pela empresa nesta comunidade, e representando os pedidos e questionamentos da comunidade dentro da Intel. Na parte de Estratégia, auxilio empresas com modelo de negócio baseados no software livre a encontrarem recursos dentro da Intel, e como podemos ajudá-los.
Também estou envolvida com o projeto Linuxchix, onde fui por vários anos coordenadora da regional brasileira, e atualmente sou uma das três co-coordenadoras do projeto internacional. O Linuxchix é um projeto visando aumentar a participação feminina na comunidade open source, que segundo uma pesquisa de 2006 estava em 2%. Servimos de ponto de encontro de várias outras organizações com foco em projetos específicos: Debian Women, Ubuntu Women, Chicas Linux, etc. Nosso principal objetivo é perder o sentido: quando tivermos uma comunidade com mais mulheres, ainda que seja na proporção geral da área de tecnologia - 28% - teremos atingido nossos objetivos. Até lá, visamos congregar os interessados neste tema.
Sou bastante agitada, sofro de fibromialgia e suas consequencias. Sou sarcástica, fresca e adoro tratamentos de pele e cabelo - sim, sou vaidosa e um pouco narcisista. Vivo brigando com a balança, e antes brigava com o mundo. Hoje em dia tenho simplesmente tanta coisa pra fazer que prefiro escolher bem minhas brigas: que diferença isto faz para mim, para minha consciência, o que vai resultar disto. Exijo muito dos outros e ainda mais de mim. Sou criativa e gosto de mudanças, gosto de viajar e conhecer lugares, pessoas e culturas diferentes, simplesmente para conhecer maneiras diferentes de enxergar a vida. Adoro gatos, sorvete e chocolate. E meu namorado, que há quase 3 anos consegue lidar com a montanha russa de estar comigo.

With a degree in Computer Science by the Federal University of Santa Catarina, I’m currently Latin America Open Source Community and Strategy Manager at Intel. The community part of my job is to be the interface between the open source community in the region and Intel, representing the open source projects developed by the company in this community, and bringing the requests and questions from this community to Intel. For the strategy part, I work with open source companies to help them to find resources from Intel to engage and promote their business.
I’m also a long time volunteer at Linuxchix, where for several years I was coordinator of the Brazilian chapter, and at this time I’m one of the Trés Chix, the three co-coordinators of the international project. Linuxchix is a project aimed to promote and encourage the female participation in the open source community, which according to a research from 2006, were estimated to be less than 2%. We serve as meeting point for several other projects sharing the same objective but for more specific areas: Debian Women, Ubuntu Women, Chicas Linux, etc. Our main objective is to loose the reason to exist: when we have a community with more balance, even if this balance is the average female participation in the IT industry - 28% - we would have achieve this. Until them, the project is a place for people interested in the subject.
I’m very active, I have fibromyalgia and suffer its consequences. I’m sarcastic, spoiled and I love facial and hair treatments - I’m kind of vain and narcissistic. I’m always fighting with my weight, and I used to fight against the world. Now I just have so much to do I need to carefully choose my fights: which difference that makes to me, to my conscious, what that may result. I demand a lot from people and much more from myself. I’m creative and I like changes, I like to travel and meet other places, people and cultures, just to know different ways to think about life. I love cats, ice cream and chocolate. And my boyfriend, who for almost 3 years now try to deal with the “Roller coaster” effect that is to date me.
